This subdivision covers an area of 110 square miles centred around the town of East Kilbride, and including Strathaven and surrounding villages.

East Kilbride is an important retail centre for much of southern Glasgow and neighbouring towns, also features high-tech businesses such as electronics, computing and light industry.  The East Kilbride Shopping Centre is the largest in Scotland and one of the three largest in the UK.
