Attempted Murder - Cathedral Square, Glasgow

Police are treating an attack on a 38-year-old man in the gardens at Cathedral Square and Castle Street, Glasgow, as attempted murder.

Around 1400 hours on Monday 2 November 2009, the 38-year-old man was involved in an altercation with two men within the gardens, during which he sustained a serious abdominal injury.

 The victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by a male and two females with a toddler. His condition is described as critical. 

Officers are currently studying CCTV footage in an effort to gain further information on the suspects.

There are no further descriptions of the suspects at this time.

Appeal for witnesses

Detective Inspector Andy McWilliam from Stewart Street CID said today:

“This attack has left a man in a critical condition I am appealing for witnesses and in particular the people who accompanied the injured man to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The area was busy at the time and I would urge people to come forward and tell us what they know or if they don’t want to speak to the police then call Crimestoppers and give the information anonymously.”
