Road Death - Old Edinburgh Road, Viewpark

A 71-year-old man has died following a road crash in Viewpark on Thursday 5 November 2009.

Around 1720 hours the 71-year-old man was crossing Old Edinburgh Road, just west of St Brides Avenue, when he was struck by a Ford Fiesta which was travelling eastbound.

The man sustained serious injuries and, sadly, died at the scene.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The female driver of the vehicle was uninjured but left badly shaken as a result.

Constable Martin Cochrane of Motherwell Road Policing Department is urging anyone with information which may assist police enquiries to come forward. He said:

“We are continuing enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash, the area would have been busy with both motorists and pedestrians and I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, indeed anyone who was near to that area of Old Edinburgh Road at the time of the incident, to contact Motherwell Road Policing on telephone number 01698 483124.
