To be a member of Strathclyde Police's Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) requires skill, bravery, commitment and a high degree of physical fitness and professionalism.
The team is called out whenever an individual or group is lost or in difficulty within the mountains and hills that fall within the area served by Strathclyde Police. The team is involved in many different rescues in all weathers and in all locations of the Force area. Increasingly, the team assists with searches for missing people in remote areas. Additionally, as a police unit, the team is involved in incidents where civilian teams would not be appropriate.
MRT's area of responsibility stretches from Bridge of Orchy and Oban in the north to Ballantrae and Crawford in the south, including the large islands of Mull, Jura and Islay, plus other small islands that fall within the Force area. Strathclyde Police Mountain Rescue Team (Strathpol MRT) is assisted by three civilian teams - based in Arran, Arrochar and Oban - who provide the Force with invaluable help and support.
