Joining the Mountain Rescue Team

To become a team member, individuals have to express an interest by submitting an application to join the team. All team members are volunteers with full-time ‘day jobs’ as officers or police staff.

To be accepted as a trainee member, it is essential that the applicant is an active, all-seasons mountaineer with at least three years' experience of general mountaineering.

The prospective team member must be familiar with navigation skills and basic rope work, be capable of climbing grade 'Difficult' rock climbs and Grade 1 snow gullies, and be proficient in simple snow and rock belay methods.

A good level of local knowledge of the area covered by Strathclyde Police is also required.
