Divisional snapshot

This area covers some 165 square miles and a population of 264,500 people.  It includes the towns of Paisley, Renfrew, Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock – all covered by CCTV surveillance systems for a marked reduction in crime.

Responsibility for policing Glasgow Airport falls to officers of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division. With around eight million passengers passing through the airport’s terminals each year, it is Scotland’s busiest airport and presents the division with unique policing challenges.

There are three sub divisions in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde:

  • Inverclyde – includes Greenock, Port Glasgow, Gourock and Inverkip
  • Johnstone and Renfrew –  includes Johnstone, Renfrew and Erskine as well as many small villages such as Houston, Kilbarchan, Lochwinnoch, Linwood, Bridge of Weir, Bishopton, Inchinnan and Langbank
  • Paisley –  includes Paisley and its immediate surrounding area

Chief Superintendent Paul Main is divisional commander for Renfrewshire and Inverclyde and is responsible for local policing strategy. He is based at divisional headquarters in Paisley.

Our community policing teams

There are 17 community policing teams within Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, each covering one or more multi-member council wards.  The teams are co-ordinated by a central communities unit.
