Divisional snapshotThis area covers some 183 square miles and has a population of 327,000 scattered in a diverse mixture of urban, rural and isolated settlements. Ongoing social and economic changes in North Lanarkshire have resulted in an ever-changing policing environment. Modern business ventures and increasing employment opportunities are replacing traditional heavy industries. The development of the Ravenscraig site will see massive changes for the division with the creation of the country's first new town in more than 50 years. There are four sub divisions in North Lanarkshire:
Chief Superintendent Graham Cairns is divisional commander and is responsible for local policing strategy. He is based at divisional headquarters in Motherwell. Our community policing teamsThere are 20 community policing teams within North Lanarkshire, each covering one or more multi-member council wards. The teams are co-ordinated by a central communities unit. We want you to know who’s on your team and how to contact us. Our officers are there to listen to you, to respond to your concerns, and to work with the community and partner agencies on long-term solutions to local problems.
