South Lanarkshire

On these pages you can meet our community policing teams and find out what we’ve been doing in South Lanarkshire.

Divisional snapshot

Serving around 307,500 people over 713 square miles, this division covers urban towns like Hamilton and Rutherglen, the new town of East Kilbride and the market town of Lanark, as well as smaller towns, villages and agricultural areas.

The area requires policing tailored to diverse communities with varied needs and expectations.  The division borders Strathclyde Country Park, and events held there require a considerable policing commitment.  It also covers a stretch of the M74 down to the border with Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary.

Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre near Strathaven also falls within the area.

There are four sub divisions in South Lanarkshire:

Chief Superintendent Tim Love is divisional commander and is responsible for local policing strategy. He is based at divisional headquarters in Hamilton.
