Marine Policing

The Marine Policing Unit is based at Greenock in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division. The team is made up of two sergeants and 10 constables.

Strathclyde Police is responsible for policing 1,760 miles of coastline and 5,500 square miles of coastal waters in the Force area. Stretching from Loch Ryan in the south to Coll and Tiree in the north, our jurisdiction extends offshore to a 12-mile territorial limit.

Places of note in the area include the River Clyde, Loch Lomond, Faslane and Coulport Naval Bases, Hunterston Nuclear Power Station, Hunterston Coal Terminal, Greenock Ocean Terminal and the Inovene Oil Terminal, plus numerous marinas and commercial maritime sites.
