Counter Terrorism Intelligence Section

The Counter Terrorism Intelligence Section (CTIS), working in partnership with internal and external partners, has a key role in protecting communities and maintaining order. To do this, CTIS collates, assesses and disseminates intelligence related to terrorism, espionage, subversion, counter-proliferation, serious crime and threats posed to public order.

Through the development and exploitation of intelligence, CTIS assists the Security Service to carry out its statutory duty under the Security Service Acts of 1989 and 1996.

The unit is also responsible for:

  • providing assessments and advice to divisions and departments in relation to threats to community safety
  • ports policing at airports and seaports
  • providing counter terrorist security advice to key elements of the critical national infrastructure, businesses and organisations
  • maintaining a register of foreign nationals who are required to register with the police.
