Diversity Recruitment Team
We recognise the value of diversity within the workplace – the skills and qualities that every individual brings to our teams and projects across the Force. To support this, we have a Diversity Recruitment Team – unique within the Scottish police service. The team works with our Recruiting Department in East Kilbride to raise awareness of employment opportunities at Strathclyde Police with members of minority communities and underrepresented groups.
Working across all six strands of diversity – race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion and belief – this team recruits to all our staff sections, from officers and special constables to police staff roles. By forming close links with influential figures in local communities and groups, the team can spread the recruitment message to every member of society. This is done through planned initiatives, community events, presentations and careers fairs, as well as in partnership with external organisations such as the Uniformed Services Partnership .
Recruitment Awards
A measure of the team's success in promoting diversity across the Force is a recent accolade from Remploy, who awarded Strathclyde Police with the Leading the Way 2006 award for large business users around work with disabled people.
In October 2008, the team were awarded the recruitment prize for the Glasgow Business Diversity Awards, hosted by Greater Glasgow Network for Supported Employment, Glasgow Works and the Glasgow Employer Coalition. The prize is awarded in recognition of the positive measures employed to promote the career opportunities to BME and other under-represented groups.
In November the team attended the National Awards, held at the Scottish Union of Supported Employment conference in Fife, and scooped the National Scottish Business Diversity Award for Recruitment. The team are delighted to have their efforts in diversity recruitment recognised at local and national level.
Our commitment
As an organisation we're signed up to the Double Tick Standard . This means that Jobcentre Plus recognises that we have made certain commitments regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees.
