Transfers
If you're a serving officer in a recognised police force in Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland or the British Transport Police, it's easy to transfer to Strathclyde Police. All you need in order to apply is a completed probation period and at least three years' service.
You won't have to sit the Standard Entrance Test (SET) - but you will have to attend an initial interview, a final interview panel, a medical examination and a fitness test. Of course, we also need to carry out background checks with your current force - including your sickness and personnel records, and any reports from Professional Standard Units.
On Monday 18 May 2009, Strathclyde Police introduced pre-appointment substance misuse testing for all new candidates to the regular and special constabularies and for all transferees to the Force. This procedure will take place at the final fitness test stage of the recruitment process. Further details can be obtained by contacting the Recruitment Department.
Officers serving with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) Constabulary, the Ministry of Defence or another non Home Office force are not eligible to transfer. In this instance, you'll be treated as a new candidate and, if appointed, undergo full foundation training and probation.
If you are serving above the rank of constable and wish to transfer in your current rank, we'll consider your application on a case-by-case basis. At this level you must bring sound supervisory skills in addition to policing experience.
Training
If you're joining us from another Scottish force, you'll undergo one week of training at our Force Training and Recruitment Centre (FT & RC) before being posted to division. Officers transferring from outside Scotland will have the same local training, as well as a two and a half week course at the Scottish Police College. And wherever you join us from, you won't need to undergo probation.
Posting
Initially you'll be posted to operational policing duties at a territorial division. The development of your future career will depend on good performance and success in relevant selection processes.
Pay and Allowances
When you transfer you'll join us on your current rate of pay and pension - and if you received housing allowance prior to August 1994, this benefit will continue.
