Transfers
If you're a serving officer in a recognised Home Office police force in Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland or the British Transport Police, it's easy to transfer to Strathclyde Police. You must have a minimum of 5 years service, be free from complaints and hold a full UK driving licence.
Your application will be sifted to the same high standards expected for any applicant to this organisation. If successful we will then write to your current force to gain access to your personal record and PDR's. This will be followed by a panel interview, fitness test and substance misuse testing. The final stage in the process is a medical examination and final vetting, which includes checks with your local Professional Standard Unit.
Officers serving with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) Constabulary, the Ministry of Defence or another non Home Office force such as Royal Parks, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Ports of Dover, Liverpool and Bristol which are not classed as police forces under the police act 1996 are not eligible to transfer. In this instance, you'll be treated as a new candidate and, if appointed, undergo full foundation training and probation.
If you are serving above the rank of constable and wish to transfer in your current rank, we'll consider your application on a case-by-case basis. At this level you must bring sound supervisory skills in addition to policing experience and this will be tested in a panel equivalant to our promotion process.
Training
If you're joining us from another Scottish force, you'll undergo one week of training at our Force Training and Recruitment Centre (FT & RC) before being posted to division. Officers transferring from outside Scotland will have the same local training, as well as a two and a half week course at the Scottish Police College. And wherever you join us from, you won't need to undergo probation.
Posting
Initially you'll be posted to operational policing duties at a territorial division. The development of your future career will depend on good performance and success in relevant selection processes.
Pay and Allowances
When you transfer you'll join us on your current rate of pay and pension - and if you received housing allowance prior to August 1994, this benefit will continue.
