Training and Deployment
Initially, you will take part in a comprehensive training programme, over a series of 12 consecutive Sundays (*see note below) at our Force Training and Recruitment Centre in East Kilbride. You will need to ensure that you can meet this commitment. This will be followed by training at your local division.
You'll learn all about the police service – and specifically Strathclyde Police – the duties of a police officer, road traffic and criminal laws, court procedures and giving evidence. You'll also receive training in officer safety techniques, police powers and legislation, gathering and preparing evidence, scenes of crime, radio procedures, powers of arrest, detention and search and community issues.
On completion of your training you will be sworn in as a special constable and will be deployed within one of the newly established community policing teams.
*Note: You should be aware that the training programme is under review and may change from the current 12 Sunday structure.
