Glasgow South and East Renfrewshire

Divisional snapshot

This division provides policing services to the communities that live, work and invest in the south side of Glasgow and East Renfrewshire. It has a population of 306,000 across 111 square miles.

The area is home to the National Football Stadium at Hampden and Ibrox Park, home of Glasgow Rangers Football Club, resulting in constant and extensive demand for policing services related to football and other events at both stadia.

There are five sub divisions in Glasgow South and East Renfrewshire:

• Cathcart – includes Mount Florida, Battlefield, Kingspark, Langside, Croftfoot, Castlemilk, Carmunock, Simshill and Shawlands East
• East Renfrewshire - includes Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns, Busby and Thornliebank; the Levern Valley communities of Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor; the villages of Eaglesham and Waterfoot; small communities and a significant number of working farms
• Govan – includes Govan, Linthouse, Shieldhall, Drumoyne, Cardonald, Hillington, Craigton, Bellahouston, Ibrox, Cessnock, Plantation, Kinning Park, Tradeston, Mosspark, Corkerhill, North Pollok and Penilee
• New Gorbals - includes New Gorbals, Oatlands, Polmadie, Queens Park, Govanhill, Crosshill, Strathbungo, the western side of Shawlands, Crossmyloof, Pollokshields and Toryglen
• Pollok – includes south Pollok, Crookston, Southpark Village, Deaconsbank, Arden, Pollokshaws, Mansewood, Darnley, part of Cathcart, Auldhouse and Hillpark.

Chief Superintendent Andrew Bates is divisional commander and is responsible for local policing strategy. He is based at divisional headquarters in Helen Street, Govan.

Our community policing teams

There are 14 community policing teams in Glasgow South and East Renfrewshire, each covering one or more multi-member council wards. The teams are co-ordinated by a central communities unit.

We want you to know who's on your team and how to contact us. Our officers are there to listen to you, to respond to your concerns, and to work with the community and partner agencies on long-term solutions to local problems.
